This is the former residence of one of America’s earliest and most prolific female photographers. Pioneer in her time, she was one of the first women photographers in the USA to work outside the confines of a studio. A naturalist, with a keen sense to capture the essence of people and places; Ms. Austen was before her time. Today the home operates as a museum displaying the creative collections from this American-photographic icon’s works and works from contemporary artist. Visitors are welcomed by great exhibits and photographs that depict a vast range of life in the Victorian age of New York.

Founded by Robert Richard Randall, this complex with its unique Greek-styled buildings are a place of history, art, theater, dance, environmental science, and much more. There is the notable Chinese Scholar’s garden, a music hall for performing arts, which is the oldest concert hall second to Carnegie Hall, the Staten Island Museum, Newhouse Center for Contemporary Art, and Noble Maritime Collection. It is a must-see for Staten Island visitors.
This beautiful campus, which houses two forts (Battery Weed & Tompkins), offers unrivaled panoramic views of the Manhattan skyline and Verrazano Bridge. Named in honor of Brigadier General James Wadsworth, who was killed in the “Battle of the Wilderness” during the Civil War, it is located along high ground on the coast of Staten Island next to the stately Verrazano Bridge.
Visitors can take tours of the campus and/or take in unrivaled panoramic views of the NYC skyline and Verrazano Bridge.
Located on the grounds of the Snug Harbor Cultural Center the Staten Island Museum is the oldest cultural institution in New York City. William T. Davis founded it along with thirteen other young naturalists in 1881.
